So I showed my documentary at last night's video show, Digitize Me. It was about halfway into the program (right after the break) and it went over pretty well. A few people told me how much they liked it -a fellow student who had sat through a few of the previous versions thought I'd pulled it together well, one of the librarians from school thought it was hilarious that I liked Gaeta because she'd watched the show and had hated him, and a rather spaced out looking older guy who had made a comment earlier about having done a lot of drugs in the 80s had to come over and tell me he'd had a huge crush on Dirk Benedict (original Starbuck) during the run of the original show and that my piece reminded him of a lot of underground documentaries he'd seen. Both of the adults who hadn't seen it before seemed to think it was really sort of refreshing (the librarian said that we "went right up to the line and stopped," and the guy (I think he was a friend of my professor's) seemed to think it was enthusiastic and self-aware in ways that we don't see much of.

Also, the librarian informed me that there was an episode of CSI where Ron Moore and Kate Vernon and Grace Park have cameos. Why yes, I am downloading it now!
Actually this is pretty incredibly hilarious. The episode is called, A Space Oddity and it basically mocks Ron Moore in a really hilarious way. It has a guy that's a producer for a new tv show based on an old tv show (based more on original Star Trek than original BSG, but...) and he rambles about how perfect the original commander was and how flawed the next one is going to be all flawed. Grace is in the crowd. And then Ron shows up and yells, "YOU SUCK!" and then I think the crowd kills the Ron Moore stand in.
| So, Dragoncon. I really want to go. I am slightly overwhelmed by the idea of finding hotels. Someone at ECC mentioned a hotel whose name started with an E that I can't remember at all. But this is really the con I want to go to. I'm getting all excited about the costume I want to do. ( Some thoughts on Steampunk Starbuck. ) |
